United Business Card vs. United Club Business Card: Which should you get?

United Airlines offers two business credit cards that are similar in name but differ significantly in annual fees and benefits.

The mid-tier United℠ Business Card (see rates and fees) offers great value for a low annual fee. In contrast, the top-tier United Club℠ Business Card has a substantially higher annual fee and valuable benefits for frequent United business travelers.

United refreshed its entire suite of credit cards in March, and we saw changes in benefits, new statement credits and, as expected, increases in annual fees.

If you're a business owner who wants a United cobranded card, which of these cards is a better fit for you? Let's examine both cards' benefits and explore each in more detail.

The information for the United Club Business has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

United Business vs. United Club Business welcome offer

Both cards are currently offering the same welcome bonus.

The United Business Card is offering 100,000 bonus miles and 2,000 PQPs after spending $5,000 on eligible purchases in the first three months of account opening.

These bonus miles are worth $1,300 per TPG's July 2025 valuations. This offer is 25,000 bonus miles higher (not including the bonus PQPs) than the standard offer we typically see.

THE POINTS GUY

Meanwhile, the United Club Business Card is also offering 100,000 bonus miles and 2,000 PQPs after spending $5,000 on eligible purchases in the first three months of account opening. The bonus miles are also worth $1,300, based on TPG's July 2025 valuations.

This offer is also 25,000 bonus miles (not including the PQPs) above the typical welcome offer we've seen on the card.

With either card, the bonus miles from the welcome offer could be enough for a few domestic economy award tickets or one-way tickets in a premium cabin on United or its partners.

It's important to note that you won't be eligible for a welcome bonus if you have received one on the card you're applying for within the past 24 months.

You'll also be subject to Chase's 5/24 rule in order to be approved for either card.

Winner: Tie. Both cards share the same welcome offer.

Additional benefits on both cards include:

Winner: United Club Business. United Club membership and a higher limit for statement credits give this card a clear edge.

Earning miles with the United Business vs. United Club Business

The United Business Card earns bonus miles in several different categories. It earns:

  • At least 7 miles per dollar spent on United purchases (tiered earnings based on United elite status; at least a 9.1% return based on TPG's July 2025 valuations)
  • 5 miles per dollar spent on United Hotel purchases (6.5% return)
  • 2 miles per dollar spent at gas stations, restaurants and office supply stores, as well as on local transit and commuting (including mass transit systems), ride-hailing services, taxis and tolls (2.6% return)

By contrast, the United Club Business Card earns:

  • At least 7 miles per dollar spent on United purchases (at least a 9.1% return)
  • 5 miles per dollar spent on hotel stays for prepaid Renowned Hotels and Resorts (6.5% return)
  • 1.5 miles per dollar spent on all other purchases (approximately a 2% return)

If you tend to make more dining, gas, office supply store and commuting purchases, then the United Business Card's 2 miles per dollar earning rate could help you quickly rack up the miles for award flights.

However, if your purchase activity covers a more diverse range of categories, the simpler 1.5 miles per dollar earning formula on the Club Business might be better for you.

Winner: United Business. It offers bonus miles in several more categories than the Club Business.

Redeeming miles with the United Business vs. United Club Business

Both United business credit cards earn United miles that are deposited into the cardholder's MileagePlus account. You can redeem United miles for United and United Express flights and flights on any Star Alliance carrier or partner airline.

Chris Nelson, a credit cards writer at TPG, is a longtime United loyalist. He has taken advantage of many partner redemptions and redeemed his miles for many saver award tickets, including last-minute Polaris business-class flights to Europe.

Winner: Tie. Both cards earn United miles that can be redeemed through the MileagePlus program.

Should I get the United Business or United Club Business?

If your business purchases tend to be in the bonus categories the United Business Card offers, its elevated earning rates can help you rake in miles. On the other hand, if you regularly travel with United, you'll likely prefer the United Club Business for its lounge access, additional free checked baggage, Premier Access services at the airport, more comprehensive travel credits and travel protections.

How to upgrade from the United Business to United Club Business

Both cards are issued by Chase and fall within the same credit card family. This is useful because if you have the United Business Card, you can upgrade to the United Club Business Card by calling Chase customer service.

However, note that upgrading to the United Club Business will make you ineligible to earn the card's welcome bonus and may make you ineligible to earn a welcome bonus on the same card if you try to apply for the same card within 24 months.

Bottom line

Both cards are tailored to United loyalists, offering excellent welcome bonuses for new applicants.

Although its annual fee is dramatically higher, the benefits of the United Club Business more than make up for the hefty fee for those able to maximize them.

Before applying for either card, map your business expenses, determine how often you fly with United and select the right card to complement your business expenses and redemption aspirations.

What’s the difference between Chase’s The Edit properties and Points Boost?

Chase recently introduced a new way for eligible cardholders to possibly get more value when booking through Chase Travel℠: Points Boost, which offers higher redemption rates on select hotel stays. This new feature joins The Edit by Chase Travel, a curated hotel collection that's been available to select cardholders since March 2024.

While both perks are tied to hotel bookings and offer elevated experiences, they're designed for different types of travelers and available to different Chase cardholders.

Here's a breakdown of how each one works, how to access them and how to choose which one to use for your next trip.

What is Chase's Points Boost?

First off, let's talk Points Boost. This new program gives eligible Chase cardholders access to elevated redemption rates on select hotel and airline bookings when redeeming Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the Chase Travel portal. Think of it as a limited-time offer that stretches your points even further.

If you were a cardholder before June 23, 2025, you're in a unique position: You have access to both Points Boost and the original fixed redemption rates of 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point (depending on which Chase card you hold) through October 26, 2027. While Points Boost may offer higher value on certain bookings, the value is variable and capped at an "up to" rate and is not guaranteed. The fixed rate, on the other hand, is consistent across all travel. Depending on the offer, it may be worth comparing both options to see which gives you more value.

This is a shift from the previous structure where fixed rates were standard with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees) and the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees).

Related: Why Chase's Points Boost is an outstanding (kind of surprising) new way to book hotels on points

How does Points Boost work?

With Points Boost, Chase offers specific travel deals — such as a flight to London or a hotel in Miami — where your points are worth more than their typical redemption value. These offers vary by destination, travel dates and availability and are featured within the Chase Travel portal.

For example, if a hotel normally costs $250 or 25,000 points, a Points Boost deal might let you book it for just 18,000 points, effectively increasing the value of each point.

You can tell if Chase offers Points Boost for a specific hotel by searching the hotel name in the Chase portal and keeping an eye out for the "Points Boost" tag with a rocket icon.

Here's an example of how that looks in the portal as a Sapphire Preferred Card holder:

Points Boost. CHASE

By booking through Points Boost, my Ultimate Rewards points are worth about 1.75 cents apiece, as opposed to 1.25 cents per point.

When searching for a destination in the Chase Portal, you can toggle "Points Boost only" to limit the search query so that you see only hotels offering the Points Boost feature.

Which Chase cards qualify for Points Boost?

Points Boost is available to cardholders with the Sapphire Reserve, the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ (see rates and fees), the J.P. Morgan Reserve, the Sapphire Preferred Card and the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (see rates and fees).

With these cards, you can potentially redeem points for more value on select flight and hotel bookings made through Chase Travel — remember, Chase will either give you the Points Boost value or the fixed rate value, whichever is better. The highest redemption rate — up to 2 cents per point — is only available to Sapphire Reserve and J.P. Morgan cardholders.

I have the Sapphire Preferred and recently saved points by redeeming with Points Boost for a three-night stay at IHG's Hotel Indigo Florence in Italy.

Without Points Boost, the stay would have cost me $791.28 or 59,362 points, yielding me a value of 1.3 cents apiece. But with Points Boost, I only had to use 49,468 points plus $49.26, which I was able to cover with my $50 Chase Travel credit. Therefore, I got a value of 1.5 cents apiece.

While saving just under 10,000 points may not seem like a lot, since TPG values Chase points at 2.05 cents per point, per our July 2025 valuations, 10,000 Chase points are worth $205.

The information for the J.P. Morgan Reserve has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

What is The Edit by Chase Travel?

Next, let's cover The Edit, a curated hotel collection launched by Chase in March 2024 that offers premium benefits when you book a participating property through Chase Travel. These perks are similar to those found in other luxury hotel programs, such as American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts.

NIMB COPENHAGEN

What perks do you get with The Edit by Chase?

When you book a hotel through The Edit, you'll receive elevated benefits that may include:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • Room upgrades (when available)
  • Early check-in and late checkout
  • A $100 property credit or similar amenity

Key differences between Points Boost and The Edit

Although both programs live within the Chase Travel portal, they serve different purposes:

Feature Points Boost The Edit
<strong>Applies to</strong> Select hotels, flights, etc. Curated collection of luxury hotels
<strong>Type of value</strong> Increased point redemption value On-property perks and upgrades
<strong>Available to</strong> Chase Sapphire Reserve<br> Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business<br> J.P. Morgan Reserve<br> Chase Sapphire Preferred<br> Ink Business Preferred Sapphire Reserve<p></p> <p>Sapphire Reserve for Business</p> <p>J.P. Morgan Reserve</p>
<strong>Best for</strong> Saving points Enhancing the hotel experience

Which Chase cards qualify for The Edit?

Only Sapphire Reserve (personal and business) and J.P. Morgan Reserve cardholders can book stays with The Edit. Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders do not have access to The Edit.

When to use Points Boost vs. The Edit

Unfortunately, not every hotel stay is available with Points Boost. If you were a Chase cardholder prior to June 23, your Ultimate Rewards points (earned before Oct. 26) will still be worth either 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point (through Oct. 26, 2027), depending on the card you have. Points earned after that date will be worth 1 cent apiece, if Points Boost is not an option.

For cardholders who obtained an eligible Chase card after June 23, redemptions not available for Points Boost are also worth a fixed 1 cent per point.

Therefore, use Points Boost when you want to maximize the value of your points on select flights or hotels. Use The Edit when you're booking a hotel stay and want a luxury experience with built-in perks like breakfast, room upgrades and resort credits.

If your main goal is stretching your points further, Points Boost is the winner. If you're looking for a more premium hotel experience, go with The Edit.

Can you combine Points Boost with The Edit?

Yes, and doing so can be a great way to maximize your Chase points. If you book a stay at a property featured in The Edit by Chase Travel and it's eligible for Points Boost, you can redeem points at an elevated rate (up to 2 cents per point) and enjoy luxury perks like complimentary breakfast, property credits and room upgrades.

Sapphire Reserve cardholders may even be able to get more value and stack additional statement credits, like the $500 The Edit credit (biannual credit of $250 available on qualifying purchases between Jan. 1 and June 30, with another $250 available between July 1 and Dec. 31).

Note that this credit cannot be used all at once and only applies to prepaid stays of at least two nights.

Bottom line

With the introduction of Points Boost and The Edit, Chase is giving travel-focused cardholders more ways to redeem their points and enhance their experiences. While Points Boost helps stretch your points further, The Edit adds luxury and convenience to your hotel stays. Knowing about the different programs can help you unlock even more value from your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

You can now book assigned seats on Southwest Airlines: Here’s how it works

You can now officially book Southwest Airlines flights with an assigned seat.

The carrier just started selling flights that will depart on (and after) Jan. 27, 2026 — the day it plans to bid farewell to open seating and welcome in its long-discussed assigned and extra-legroom seating setup.

For those of us who have flown Southwest on countless occasions in the past, it's admittedly a bit of a strange feeling to pull up the carrier's website and see a seat map when booking a trip.

But as of this week, that's now a reality.

Southwest plane wing
A Southwest Airlines plane taxis at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). SEAN CUDAHY/THE POINTS GUY

These 2026 flights with assigned seating will also mark the start of using fare types that sound a lot different from the ones Southwest has sold for years. "Wanna Get Away" is already a thing of the past, having been replaced by the carrier's new basic economy fare. But the airline is now also phasing out "Wanna Get Away Plus," "Anytime" and "Business Select."

Instead, Southwest's four fare products will include:

Fare product What to expect
Basic No complimentary advance seat selection unless you have a Southwest credit card or A-List status, lower Rapid Rewards earnings and last to board
Choice Standard seat selection
Choice Preferred Select a "preferred" seat (a regular seat situated closer to the front of the plane)
Choice Extra Select an extra-legroom seat, plus enjoy two free checked bags and priority boarding

What it's like booking a Southwest Airlines flight with assigned seats

What is it like booking a Southwest flight with assigned seating?

It'll be a pretty familiar process if you've booked a flight on, well, just about any other airline — but I'll briefly walk you through some of the unique elements of Southwest's assigned seating process.

Here's an example: a one-way February 2026 booking from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C., to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

A booking with Southwest Airlines
A booking with Southwest Airlines. SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

As you can see, the ticket options on Southwest's website now reflect the airline's new fare classes.

Southwest's new fare class options

Basic and Choice

For this trip, prices start at $118 for a basic ticket. That's $30 less than Southwest's Choice fare, which is now Southwest's version of a standard, full-fare, non-basic economy ticket you'd see on another airline.

If you're booking a basic ticket, you won't be able to miss the tightest restriction, which appears when you pull up the seat map: no complimentary seat selection, similar to basic economy policies at other airlines.

Seat map for a Basic booking on Southwest.

However, I will point out: On this flight, you still can pay $60 extra to select an extra-legroom seat.

Upgrade to extra legroom seats available on a basic booking.

Compare that to the $140 extra you'd pay for Southwest's full, top-level Choice Extra bundle, which includes extra-legroom seats, two free checked bags and a few other perks.

Choice Preferred

If you're booking a Choice Preferred fare, the seat map will open up some seats closer to the front of the plane. Those will be regular seats with standard legroom, but you won't be stuck in the back of the aircraft.

Choice Extra

And then once you select the higher-priced Choice Extra bundle, you'll have your pick of any seat, including one with extra legroom.

Award booking

Here's an example of how the new fare classes are priced out if you're booking a Southwest Rapid Rewards redemption on another February itinerary — this time from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) to Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).

Award booking from Phoenix to Honolulu.

  • Basic: 28,000 points (down 9% from Choice, Southwest's new standard fare class)
  • Choice: 30,500 points
  • Choice Preferred: 36,000 points (up 18% from Choice)
  • Choice Extra: 43,000 (up 41% from Choice)

Bottom line

As a reminder, every Southwest credit card will get you a free checked bag for yourself and up to eight companions flying on the same reservation.

Every card will also get you at least some sort of seat selection — in some cases, within 48 hours of departure. Two of the carrier's higher-priced cards come with complimentary extra-legroom access closer to takeoff.

A-List and A-List Preferred members also get baggage, boarding and seating benefits under the new setup.

Starlux Airlines' new Phoenix-Taiwan flights now on sale

Taiwan has become a popular destination for both business and leisure travelers, and, starting Jan. 15, travelers will be able to fly nonstop to the island nation from Phoenix.

This spring, upscale Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines revealed it would begin operating nonstop flights three times weekly between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).

And now, those flights are available to book.

They will operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, departing Taiwan at 8:45 p.m. and landing in Phoenix at 5:40 p.m., all times local. The return flights will depart Phoenix at 10:45 p.m. and land in Taipei at 4:55 a.m., technically two days later.

Starlux already operates direct flights to Taipei from Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Ontario, California. It will be the only airline operating the direct route between Taipei and Phoenix. This new route also marks Phoenix's first-ever nonstop route to Asia.

Flights will operate on Airbus A350-900s, and they will clock in at 11 hours and 55 minutes eastbound and 15 hours and 10 minutes westbound. The planes feature economy, premium economy, business-class and first-class cabins. When TPG's Clint Henderson flew from LA to Taipei in Starlux's business class in 2024, he had nothing but rave reviews of the airline's food and service.

Prices for a one-way economy ticket fall between $448 and $650, and premium economy prices climb to more than $1,000 each way.

This direct route doesn't offer much business-class or first-class availability until the summertime. In July, a business-class seat costs around $4,000 one-way.

Luckily, travelers will be able to skip the cash costs and instead pay for seats on this new Starlux route using Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles. There are no good business-class redemption opportunities at the moment, but Starlux's direct-to-Taipei routes from other U.S. cities like Seattle come in at around 75,000 miles (plus taxes and fees) each way via Alaska Airlines. So, once this Phoenix route gets up and running, there will likely be some solid rates.

No place says "fall is here" quite like New York. The month starts off in full-court style with the U.S. Open; it's played in Flushing Meadows, Queens, and runs until Sept. 7. Even if you're not a tennis fan, the tournament is a true see-and-be-seen New York City event, with celebrities and stylish scene setters sharing courtside seating with longtime fans. There's food by top chefs and lots of fun perks and promotions from sponsors American Express and Chase for current cardholders.

If you prefer golf to tennis, New York can also tee that up with the 2025 Ryder Cup, which takes place from Sept. 26 to 28 at the Bethpage Black Course in nearby Farmingdale, Long Island.

And of course, the theater season is off to a grand start as Broadway shows debut on the Great White Way. Shows include a revival of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot," starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, co-stars of the "Bill and Ted" films.

TPG tip: The big news in the Big Apple is that The Waldorf Astoria has finally opened after a nearly eight-year hiatus during which time the grande dame got a full head-to-toe makeover. The fully renovated hotel now has 375 spacious rooms and suites, down from 1,400 in its previous incarnation; it also has glamorous new public areas and multiple dining options that are sure to be destinations in themselves. Although reservations started opening over the summer, months ahead of time, September is when everything is supposed to be fully online (with the exception of the spa, which should be ready by the end of 2025).

Rooms start at $1,545 or 840,000 Hilton Honors points per night in September.

Eastern France's wine regions

When the seasons change from summer to fall in the heart of France, it can only mean one thing: It's time to toast to all things wine as the grape harvest gets underway.

In the last few years, France has developed a new wine and food trail that provides a great itinerary for exploring the vineyards of Eastern France. Called Vallee de la Gastronomie, the entire route flows from Dijon in the north to Marseilles in the south, but travelers can easily pick a smaller section to explore.

In the early fall, we're especially focused on the section from Burgundy to Lyon, where wine lovers have a wealth of tasting options, including in nearby Sancerre, Chablis and Beaujolais. Sip at Chateau de Meursault and Chateau de Pommard, both stunning estates with extensive wine tasting options. Or, for a one-and-done vinophile experience, book a Beaujolais Insiders tour, which will take you into the vineyards of the Burgundy region in a classic LandRover. Stop for lunch in the heart of Burgundy at Michelin-starred Auberge de Cep, which focuses on local dishes matched with the area's wines or even cooked with them. (Their signature dish is farm chicken simmered in Fleurie wine.) Build an appetite by renting an e-bike to see the natural beauty of the area up close.

TPG tip: Como Le Montrachet comprises an entire lemon-yellow French village from the 19th century and sits in the heart of Burgundy wine country in Puligny-Montrachet. It has chic etoile-print wallpapered rooms, lushly landscaped grounds and excellent service. The restaurant here is worth a special trip alone to sip local wines while you enjoy an eight-course French farm-to-table tasting menu. From the hotel, Beaune is just 20 minutes away, and you can easily explore the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits on guided wine tours.

Rooms start at $575 per night and can be booked through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts and the Mr & Mrs Smith luxury hotel collection.

For a central city stay, the stunningly restored Intercontinental Lyon — Hotel Dieu by IHG occupies a palatial 18th-century building right on the Rhone River within walking distance of the old town. The property has 144 rooms and suites, so if the smaller boutique properties around the region are full, there's a good chance you can still book an elegant, modern room here. The on-property restaurant, Epona, has multicourse regional tasting menus; keep an eye out for the Comte warm cheese tart, a specialty.

Rooms start at $372 or 62,000 IHG One Reward points per night in September.

Memphis

In Memphis, celebrate the centennial of blues legend B.B. King, who would have turned 100 on Sept. 16. Musical festivities in the blues legend's honor are being planned throughout the month of September.

The live music celebrations will be centered on iconic Beale Street, where B.B. King's Blues Club and the Blues Foundation's Blues Hall of Fame are.

There are three main events to plan your September music calendar around: On Sept. 14, there's a free concert on Beale Street with performances by Corey Lou and Davillage Band, as well as STAX Music Academy. On Sept. 16, Robert Cray, Carla Thomas, Hi Rhythm and more will perform at B.B. King's Blues Club. And on Sept. 18, the STAX Alumni Band will jam with the B.B. King's All Stars at B.B. King's Blues Club.

TPG tip: Former TPG hotel writer and son of Memphis, Cameron Sperance, was impressed by the Caption by Hyatt Beale Street Memphis, the first outpost of the contemporary brand, when it opened a few years ago. "The rates were affordable, the food was delicious and the hotel was charming and had character," he said. With its central Beale Street location, it is perfectly situated for all things B.B. King.

Rates in September start at $117 or 12,000 World of Hyatt points per night, making it an affordable option.

Prince Edward Island

The PEI International Shellfish Festival
THE PEI INTERNATIONAL SHELLFISH FESTIVAL

When September rolls around, it seems like fall foliage should be making its debut. But, it's usually a little too warm in the lower 48 states for trees to start changing. The answer for eager leaf peepers? Head north to Canada.

Although many of Canada's provinces and territories offer early autumnal leaves, we are especially fond of PEI (as Prince Edward Island is commonly known). In late September, the summer crowds thin, the island takes on a more relaxed pace, and the leaves begin to change to warm shades of red, orange and gold. The foliage is especially scenic juxtaposed with the area's coastal blues and grays and red-sand beaches.

Seafood also abounds in PEI, and the PEI International Shellfish Festival takes place in September. Held in Charlottetown from Sept. 18 to 21, you'll find copious amounts of oysters, mussels and lobster served up alongside live music.

TPG tip: Delta Hotels Prince Edward, a Marriott property, has a prime waterside location in Charlottetown. This means you can walk to the festival or just hit a waterside restaurant for plates full of local seafood, before heading off to explore all the leafy glory of PEI. Extra bonus: The property is dog-friendly, so you can bring your pup on a fall adventure, too.

Rates in September start at $205 or 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Munich

It may be called Oktoberfest (October Festival), but Munich's beer-soaked folk fest kicks off in September. This year's stein raising festivities take over the tents of Theresienwiese, where the event has been held since 1810. Festivities start Sept. 20 and continue for two weeks. If you've never been before, it's good to start off by knowing there are nearly three dozen beer tents, each with its own unique vibe. They all offer classic German dishes (hello, knockwurst and giant pretzels). Plus, there's another separate area that offers carnival rides.

Since there's always a high volume of visitors (more than 7 million at last count), it is often hard to snag a seat, but you can make reservations for many of the most popular options. Heinz Wurst and HuhnerBraterei and Wirtshaus im Schichtl are both on OpenTable.

If you need a break from beer, head to the Kunstareal, Munich's famed art district. FLUX, the colorful art installation, recently opened there, and it's an admission-free, indoor-outdoor lounge space at the Pinakothek art museum complex. It's also a good spot to get a bit of quiet time.

TPG tip: The Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor has a two-floor spa and pool complex, which TPG principal spokesperson Clint Henderson said is among the best in Germany. The property also offers several great restaurant options. (Note that it is a bit out of downtown, so you'll need to take the nearby train to access Oktoberfest.)

Rates start at $733 or 23,000 World of Hyatt points per night during Oktoberfest.

The Rosewood Munich is a luxury hotel that has revitalized the Palais Neuhaus-Preysing (which originally dates to the early 1700s) and the late-19th-century Bavarian State Bank headquarters. "The hotel's excellent location, elegant decor and engaging dining and drinking venues mean that it pulls a mix of visitors and locals alike that give it a certain cosmopolitan flavor," TPG's editorial director Eric Rosen said when he visited. "If your budget stretches to it, make this your home base for your next Bavarian getaway."

Rooms start at $1,013 per night in September and are bookable through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts.

Namibia

September is an excellent time to visit Namibia, according to the travel experts at Audley Travel, who helped me plan my trip to the southern African nation famed for its epic red sand dunes and rugged Skeleton Coast. They noted that the weather is "warm but not scorching or humid, dry and with clear skies ideal for stargazing among the desert dunes."

And 2025 is a great time to visit Namibia, thanks to a recent ruling that made it safer for LGBTQI+ visitors to see the country's unique wildlife and wide-open spaces.

Namibia is home to exceptional lodges, such as Natural Selection's fabulously romantic Shipwreck Lodge on the windswept Skeleton Coast. There's also Wilderness Desert Rhino Camp in the northwestern Damaraland region, which is known for its highly safeguarded (in large part thanks to Wilderness and Save the Rhino Trust Namibia) population of critically endangered black rhinos.

TPG tip: In Windhoek, the Namibian capital where most travelers arrive, the Hilton Garden Inn Windhoek is now open and bookable starting at $113 or 20,000 Hilton Honors points per night in September. Additionally, Zannier Sonop, the sumptuous tented camp set among boulders in the southern Namib Desert, has been added to World of Hyatt via its Mr & Mrs Smith partnership; so, it's now possible to book starting at $1,037 or 79,250 World of Hyatt points per night in September.

The Athens Riviera

The Athens Riviera hugs the coast of Greece, stretching 40 miles from Piraeus, just outside of Athens, to Cape Sounion at the southernmost tip of the Attica Peninsula. It's one of TPG's picks for the best places to go in 2025 for its boom in luxury beach resorts and easy access to Athens, just 10 miles away. Best of all, September is still warm enough to enjoy the beach and swim in the azure sea.

Plus, you'll also skip the crowds and high prices of island darlings like Santorini and Mykonos. But don't worry, the destinations along the Athens Riviera (like Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza) all have beach clubs, shopping and excellent dining options. All this without the need to book a ferry, helicopter or flight to enjoy the sand between your toes and a big platter of fresh-from-the-ocean seafood.

Consider renting a car to make it easier to get in and out of Athens and to visit sites like the Temple of Poseidon, an ancient Greek temple in Sounion.

At the time of publication, there were wildfires and related evacuations in the Athens region. Although the Athens Riviera was not affected, always check before booking travel.

TPG tip: Some of the most notable hotels in the Athens Riviera include the Four Seasons Astir Palace and the retro-glam One&Only Aesthesis, both of which are bookable via American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts. There's also the upscale glamping concept from boutique brand Domes called 91 Athens Riviera, the new Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Glyfada with '70s coastal vibes, and the recently reopened Cape Sounio from Grecotel Hotels & Resorts, which overlooks the Temple of Poseidon.

Malaysia's western coast

Although it can still be very hot in Southeast Asia in September, Malaysia's western coast — where you'll find the capital, Kuala Lumpur, and the foodie-favorite destination, Penang — typically sees less rainfall in September compared to other months. Plus, the weather is more temperate, making it a good time to visit.

The country celebrates Malaysia Day, Sept. 16, which is the annual holiday celebrating the nation's establishment. In Kuala Lumpur, the holiday includes fireworks at the iconic Petronas Towers as well as a grand parade with traditional dancers and colorful floats.

The country is also celebrating the addition of its popular national breakfast to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list. So be sure to start your day at least once with a full array of nasi lemak, roti canai and teh tarik while you're there.

TPG tip: Kuala Lumpur is a hot destination for new hotel development. The Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, which is accepting reservations for Aug. 7 and beyond, is a Hyatt award category 5 hotel. It offers epic views from the top floors of Merdeka 118 — the tallest skyscraper in Asia Pacific. Rates start at $320 or 20,000 World of Hyatt points per night in September.

Though it won't open until late 2025, the Kimpton Naluria Kuala Lumpur is also a property to keep an eye on. It will offer 466 rooms in the lively Tun Razak Exchange.

Argentina

Head to South America to trade in autumn for spring in the Southern Hemisphere. Around Buenos Aires, September brings warming temperatures in the low 70s and blooming purple jacaranda trees. Plus, the city's famed rose garden bursts with 18,000 colorful, flowering plants. Enjoy the weather at the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve, the largest natural space in the city and one of the largest urban green spaces in Latin America; it's perfect for spring walks, wildlife spotting and fresh air in the city.

For more natural adventures, head south along the coast, and you'll be able to see Southern Right whales migrating along the Valdes Peninsula. (Bonus: There are a large number of Magellan penguins here, too.)

TPG tip: The elegant InterContinental Buenos Aires is the city's grande dame hotel. It is in a prime location near the city's top attractions and the popular neighborhoods of San Telmo and Florida Avenue. The luxury property also has an indoor pool, spa, and several dining options, including a classic Argentinian cafe.

Rates start from $161 or 29,000 IHG One Rewards points per night in September.

Tahiti

Not ready to give up on a tropical beach vacation in September? Keep heading south to reach the ideal, sand-in-your-toes island destination of Tahiti, surrounded by French Polynesia's vitrine blue waters. Although it's considered shoulder season, the weather — 80 degrees during the day, mid-60s at night — is ideal in September. Plus, there's no rain at this time of year, so every day is a beach day. You'll have fewer crowds and lower prices by visiting in this quieter month.

Off the beach, the island offers myriad ways to immerse yourself in the local culture. Visit Papeete Market for food and crafts, or plan a Jeep tour via Ia Ora Na Tahiti Expeditions; it takes adventure seekers to the East Coast of Tahiti and through Papenoo, the largest valley of Tahiti.

TPG tip: There's a lot to like about the Hilton Hotel Tahiti, including the largest pool on the island, scenic views of neighboring Moorea and the deep-tissue massages at the Moearii Wellness Center. TPG is also a fan of the dining options here, which include copious sushi platters and even excellent pizza. An extra bonus: It's just a 10-minute drive from Faa'a International Airport (PPT), so you can start your vacation almost as soon as you step off the plane.

Rates start from $444 or 80,000 Hilton Honors points per night in September.
